Tomorrow, Little Brother’s Rapper Big Pooh is dropping his Prince-inspired mixtape entitled The Purple Tape, exclusively produced by Black Milk. Additional upcoming January mixtapes include efforts by former Dipset members Cam’ron (1/12), Jim Jones (1/19), and Juelz Santana as well as Ludacris and Tony Yayo (1/28). The month also kicks off a series of 2010 projects by Mob Figaz’s The Jacka: a street album (Broad Daylight) on January 12, a collaboration album with Laroo (Neva Be The Same: 20 Bricks Season One) on January 19, and a compilation (Dre Area Vol. 2) on February 16.
Despite conflicting reports, Lil Wayne’s Rebirth is still on track for a February 2 release, according Universal Motown. After more than four years in the making, Curren$y will unveil his Don Cannon-hosted mixtape, Smokey Robinson, on Super Bowl Sunday (February 7). In his "On To The Next One" freestyle, Bun B announced that his third solo album, Trill O.G., is coming out on March 2. After numerous delays, Three 6 Mafia and Game’s albums are dropping on March 23. While the Academy Award winning duo’s recent postponement goes without explanation, the former G-Unit member blames the pushback on his obligation to complete community service before he can travel. Also slated for March 23, Yo Gotti is scheduled to release Live From The Kitchen, which serves as both his major label debut and his first album on Cash Money.
Featuring the single “Where Ya At,” Devin The Dude’s sixth studio album, Suite #420, will appropriately hit retailers on April 20 via E1. With T.I. serving as the project’s executive producer, B.o.B.’s highly anticipated debut album, The Adventures Of Bobby Ray, will be released on May 25, after three years of recording. Trina’s fifth studio album, Amazin’, has been pushed back until June 8, featuring guest appearances from Diddy, Keri Hilson, Ludacris, Lyfe Jennings, and Nicki Minaj.
After signing a label deal with Warner/Asylum, Pill will release his debut album, The Medicine, this summer. Also scheduled for this summer, M.I.A. is putting the finishing touches on her untitled third studio album, which will feature more singing than Kala and heavy production by Baltimore’s Blaqstarr. Switching things up as well, Fat Joe is in the lab working on his tenth album, The Darkside: Volume 1, which he promises to be “harsher” than his previous album. This past week also ushered in new project announcements from Exile, Ryan Leslie, and Self Scientific as well as the rumor that Blame One will return from retirement for a collaboration album with DJ Babu
