PackFM Explains "Happy Days," Talks New Albums

PackFM Explains "Happy Days," Talks New Albums
01.11.10 | by Andres Tardio

PackFM has made it abundantly clear that he hates rappers. Recently, that hate translated to a new song, "Happy Days ," which was leaked to the web. Upon its release, PackFM spoke with HipHopDX about all that inspsired the track's lyrics. He also shared more insight as to the release of his forthcoming joint project with Domingo, I Fucking Hate Rappers.

Frustrated with the game's current state, Pack was candid about his feelings, tired of what he sees as complacency in Rap. He also has said he feels that standards are being lowered in all aspects of society. But, more than that he seems hopeful for his two projects in the works, the aforementioned I Fucking Hate Rappers album and The Human Highlight Reel, a disc he feels will be a masterpiece.

HipHopDX: You said in a statement that you feel people have lowered their standards for everything nowadays. Why do you think that is?
PackFM: Because they got sick of being disappointed. People went from shouting "Let's bring the '90s back!" to "Hip Hop is dead" to just accepting things the way they are because they got tired of wasting their breath. It clearly can't be that they're satisfied because this is not what they were asking for, it's actually more of the same. It's not just with Hip Hop either, it's in everything we do, the food we eat, the shows on TV...everything is losing quality and people are just accepting it, because protesting it didn't get them any results.

DX: Complacency seems to be the main theme in the track, like people are complacent about everything. But, how can emcees and fans in the Hip Hop world change that?
PackFM: The fans need to demand quality, and the MC's have to step up their quality control. Rappers need to quit with the "Free Mixtapes" every two months full of throwaway tracks and put out solid albums that are actually worth something, even if it's once a year. And fans need to stop accepting bullshit. I hear people use terms like "not bad" to describe the top rappers today. "Not bad" does not mean good. I had a debate with some heads about a certain rapper whom they considered to be the best today and their main argument was to get me to look past all his flaws in order to see his good qualities. Since when did mediocre become the new dope?

DX: On "Happy Days," you sayd, "Everybody's partying and having a ball / So happy to be heard but saying nothing at all." What makes you say that about the game? Do you feel that it's mostly disposable?
PackFM: Unfortunately it's like that right now. People just want to be seen and heard so bad. Pseudo YouTube reality shows, Twitter or whatever have you...they just put themselves out there but there's not much substance behind any of it. This is the "Look At Me Era" but what are we looking at and why? Not everything has to be "deep" but give the people something they can wrap their brains around. You got peoples' attention, now make the most of it. I said it before, if you had the chance to reach thousands of people at once....What would you say?

DX: That kind of leads me to ask about your I Fucking Hate Rappers album with Domingo. How close are we to a release date? I know a lot of people have been expecting it since it was announced.
PackFM: We're real close to it. I'm really looking forward to getting it out there for everyone to hear. The biggest taboo in Hip Hop might be to announce a release date before the project has gone to press, you're almost guaranteed to get pushed back. So for now I'll just say stay tuned to qn5.com and the record will be out before you know it.

DX: But aside from that, you have The Human Highlight Reel. Last time we spoke, you called it a masterpiece. Care to describe a little more about the album?
PackFM: The Human Highlight Reel is going to be my ultimate "show & prove" project. If everthing goes the way I have it pictured, it will be more than just an album. I think it will take about a year or so for me to coordinate and execute properly. That's all I can say for now so just stay tuned.
