Lil Wayne has been detained since earlier this evening after Texas border patrol agents discovered traces of marijuana on his tour buses.

Wayne’s group was stopped in Falfurrias, 100 miles from the Mexican border, as part of a routine stop done by border patrols.

Lil Wayne and his entourage have been released, according to Border Patrol Agent Joe Trevino.

An investigation is now open, and will be handled by the Brook's County Sheriff's Office.

Kid Cudi has reportedly been kicked off of his slot on Lady Gaga's Monster Ball tour. Cudi, who was supposed to open for the pop singer, was dropped after punching an audience member during one of his performances in Vancouver last week, according to TMZ.com.

Cudi's people, however, are telling a different story. According a statement made by them, "Kid Cudi has decided to take an early leave of absence from Lady Gaga's Monster Ball tour in order to balance his schedule surrounding the recording of his next album and acting commitments. Cudi does not want to disappoint his fans and will move forward with his individual show dates in December and throughout the month of January."

Kid Cudi will be replaced by Jason Derulo, whose single "Whatcha Say" has had huge success on the radio as well as Youtube.

Rapper Pitbull has also had a lot of success on Youtube, earning the most watched music video of the year, according to the website. Trey Songz Says There's No Beef With R. Kelly

Trey Songz Says There's No Beef With R. Kelly
12.18.09 | by Slava Kuperstein

R&B singer Trey Songz says that there is no beef with R. Kelly, despite his track, "Death of Kells."

The song, which criticizes Kelly for his use of Auto-Tune, isn't that serious, according to Songz. "It wasn't a beef," revealed the singer, in an interview with MTV News. "It was me telling R. Kelly to take the damn Auto-Tune off his voice, which he did on his album. His album is good."

Songz also spoke about his next project, which he hopes to release soon. "I'm trying to make sure I have an album out ASAP," he said. "I ain't gonna tell you how soon, though. It's not gonna be two years. I wanna use the same recipe I've been using. If anybody is added, it'll be for real purpose. I spoke to Pharrell. I told him I'm getting in, Timbaland as well — both huge Virginian-grown producers. I definitely would love to work with them. But Troy Taylor I've been working with since the beginning of my career. Plus Bryan-Michael Cox I've had a couple hits with. I definitely wanna make sure we use the same chemistry."

Songz most recent release was 2009's Ready, which has been nominated at the 52nd Grammy Awards for "Best Contemporary R&B Album."

Raheem DeVaughn Talks State Of Hip Hop, New Double LP
12.17.09 | by Jake Paine

Raheem DeVaughn is one of Hip Hop's go-to feature singers. Like his Jive Records label-mate Anthony Hamilton, Radio Raheem has ascended from the ranks of underground emcee appearances to major singles and Grammy Award nominations and BET Award wins.

Speaking with HipHopDX earlier this month, DeVaughn recalled his early beginnings from some forgotten faces of the Rap underground through to his most recent major label work. "Probably, My first one was the joint I did with Asheru [& Blue Black] featuring Talib Kweli called 'Mood Swings.' Then me and [Jazzy] Jeff connected. Actually, we got connected through Kev Brown, and it pretty much travelled from there. I worked with De La Soul, I'm on both of the last UGK albums , I'm on Talib Kweli's [Eardrum], the Ghostface [Killah's Ghostdini album], just whole bunch of little projects."

Like many in the Hip Hop community, and perhaps many readers of this site, Raheem also asserts that quality is often lost in the genre. "I just enjoy making great music. I love Hip Hop, I love what Hip Hop used to be about. I feel like it changed tremendously, drastically. I got my own opinions on that, but I feel where I can get in and preserve it and work with some cats that I think are talented and respect my talent and give them a record that something you can hear indefinitely." He added that Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 is his favorite Rap release of 2009. He went into detail, "[Raekwon] put out a real Hip Hop [album], but it doesn't feel dated either. He put it out the album and it felt like when the Wu was out, feel like the way a Wu-Tang album should sound like. That was probably the hardest joint, no compromising. You can tell he did specifically what he wanted to do. I don't want to let the cat out the bag yet, but you can definitely expect some Raheem DeVaughn/Raekwon collabos in the near future."

With that opinion in tact, Raheem is bringing some talent in the game, via his 368 Music Group. His first artist, Phil Ade, both raps and sings. "He's 21 years old. He's really dope, really creative. So [I've] just been developing him and being be a mentor at the same time, it's coming along rather nicely. If you want to check his new mixtape and project it's been out for a couple months now, It's called Starting On JV you can download it at 368MusicGroup.com." DeVaughn says that some of his own promotional work is only available on the site for free download.

Another trend in the 2009 has been the burgeoning DMV movement. Through success from Wale and Mario, the DC-Maryland-Virginia area witnessed a lot of national success. A pioneer in that awareness, Raheem commented, "I always [have] been looked at as kind of the spearhead of the movement, as far as the underground is concerned, because of my background being as the artist that had his own mixtapes and independent albums. I used to put them together myself and package them," he recalled. "I was able to give advice to Wale before he started, I was able to give to Tabi Bonney, [and] more importantly, just to lead by example. I think definitely being nominated for the Grammy's the last two years in particular definitely brought attention to the area. Also, I think it's that time, every area has their time and as far as the DMV is concerned now is definitely the time whether it's independent or a major release, music is music."

2010 promises to further that pioneering movement on DeVaughn's part. He has a double disc called The Love & War Masterpeace coming on 368 Music Group/Jive Records. Like previous releases in the '90s, the discs are themed separately. "[ It's] half socially conscious, half love," Raheem told DX. "I have a lot of collabos not that I feel like I needed, these are artist I always wanted to work with so I had the opportunity to do that. [Ludacris] is on the album, Wale is on the album, my new artist Phil Aid is on the album, Bun B is on the album, Damian Marley in on the album."

A few months after the epic Rap collaboraton "Forever" with Eminem, Lil Wayne, Drake and Kanye West, Raheem DeVaughn has assembled a single cut that's a super-collaboration of his peers. "I have one song in the particular that features Anthony Hamilton, Dwele, Citizen Cope, Chrisette Michele, Bilal, there are a couple other people, it's called 'Nobody Wins The War' it's for the soldiers. What's so ironic about it is that the song has been written and recorded over a year and a half and with the address [President] Obama just made to the state, it's right on time. If you're a artist and you really pay attention to what's going on, it's not rocket science to put something out with some substance and talk about things that are unfolding right before our eyes."

Jim Jones Speaks on Jay-Z / 50 Cent Beef

Jim Jones Speaks on Jay-Z / 50 Cent Beef

12.15.09 by Andres Tardio

Jim Jones has been involved in many beefs but now he's speaking on others and their current feuds. Jones recently took time during an interview with Complex magazine to speak on the beef 50 and Beanie are trying to start with Jay-Z.

"Yeah, and he shouted me out on the beginning of The Blueprint 3, right? That was hot. How many albums he sold? I got a shout out, a million sold records, nigga! [laughs]. And you know I’m about to chop and screw that shit and make a hook out of it. 'I ain’t talking bout Jimmy, I ain’t talking about Jimmy.' That’s going to be the hook. See how easy that’d be? And that’s going to kill. And no, I ain’t clearing the publishing. [Laughs]"

Later, he said he would "snuff" Jay if he was 50.

"If I was 50, I’d run down and snuff the shit out of him. That’s what I would do. I would go get some fly-ass security, back his security down on some football shit, and just run down on him, snuff the shit out him. But I ain’t got a hundred million and shit like that. So we couldn’t pull that stunt. Now that’s publicity," he noted. "...You know me, I ain’t got it all upstairs. I guess that’s why the lord said, 'No, we ain’t gonna get you no hundred million right now. We’re going to cool on out.' [Laughs]”

He also spoke on the Dipset movement and looked back on times spent with the crew. Check Complex magazine to read about that.

Chris Brown Cancels Twitter After Rant

Chris Brown Cancels Twitter After Rant
12.15.09 | by Andres Tardio

Over the weekend, Chris Brown's followers saw his outrage on display via Twitter. The singer was upset that a Wal-Mart did not carry his album, the recently released Graffiti.

"I'm tired of this shit. Major stores are blackballing my CD. Not stockin the shelves and lying to customers," he noted. "What the fuck do I gotta do..."

"Just was at Walmart in Wallingford CT, 844 north colony," he added. "The[y] didn't even have my album in the back ... not on shelves, saw for myself."

"Wow!!! But they had Alicia Keys album ready for release for this Tuesday comin ... the manager told me that when there are new releases it's mandatory to put em on the shelves ... BUT NO SIGN OF #GRAFFITI. BS."

He also said that he wouldn't take back any of the statements.

"WTF… yeah i said it and I ain’t retracting shit. I’m not biting my tongue about shit else… the industry can kiss my ass."

Now, Brown's Twitter account has been canceled. Still, no word from the singer or his representatives about the cancellation.

Aside from this, major chains are saying his claims are unfounded.

"Not only am I carrying it, I am over carrying it, because it isn't selling," the head of purchasing at one large chain told Billboard recently. "I wish I could return it."

Wal-Mart also issued a statement on the matter.

"We are surprised at the comments on Twitter, since all Wal-Mart stores carried the CD since its release, including the Wallingford store mentioned in the post. This store had in fact sold through their copies over the weekend. The majority of our stores are showing today they have copies on hand."

Foreign Exchange Reacts To Grammy Nomination

Foreign Exchange Reacts To Grammy Nomination
12.15.09 | by Salima Koroma

Music group Foreign Exchange recently reacted to their Grammy nomination, saying that their lives were "forever changed" after hearing the good news. The duo, which consists of Little Brother's Phonte and Dutch producer Nicolay, met through internet messageboards and swapped music back and forth, which would eventually led to their first album Connected in 2004.

The duo's second album Leave It All Behind was not only well-received, but will now also join other Grammy nominees in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance category for the track "Daykeeper" featuring Muhsinah.

"We haven't come forward with a personal press release or statement of any kind because truthfully, the past week has been a whirlwind of events and its taken us a while to really wrap our heads around all that's happened," Phonte and Nicolay wrote in a letter to fans. "Needless to say, we are both filled with feelings of shock, wonder, amazement, nervousness, humility, and extreme gratitude."

Along with the letter, the unlikely pair created a short video which takes a look at how the group went from virtual obscurity to independent Grammy nominated artists. "Consider this our pre-Grammy speech...lol. We encourage all of you to pass this along and spread the word, as we feel our story is a big inspiration to artists everywhere. Every once in a blue moon, the good guys do win."
