Just weeks after the release of their critically acclaimed Villa Manifesto EP, Slum Village will resurface on January 12 with Fantastic Vol. 2.10, a tenth anniversary re-issue featuring previously unreleased original mixes and skits as well as three bonus tracks. The following week, Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Tekitha will return with her long awaited debut solo EP The Prelude, a six-track fusion of Soul, Hip Hop, and Pop Rock graced by RZA’s beats and executive production. Fresh off the release of their Statik Selektah-mixed The RE:Union mixtape, the Reflection Eternal collective, comprised of Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek, is set to release their sophomore album Revolutions Per Minute in February. With Venom delayed until March 16, Chamillionaire has decided to treat fans to Major Pain on February 2, with the first 200 pre-orders autographed by the Mixtape Messiah himself. Just months after the untimely September death of Roc Raida, The X-Ecutioners’ Rob Swift’s will release his fourth album, The Architect, which will incorporate a much more unconventional sound than fans are accustomed to, marketing the project as “Mozart meets Rob Swift.”
With the recent additions of Lil Flip’s Ahead Of My Time and The Roots’ How I Got Over, March 2 is gearing up to be a “Super Tuesday,” already boasting a lineup of Jamie Foxx, Missy Elliott, Three 6 Mafia, Toni Braxton, and Usher. Duck Down is also generating a great deal of first quarter excitement, with a fury of new releases from Smif-N-Wessun’s General Steele (2/23), Kidz In The Hall (3/9), Marco Polo and Ruste Juxx (3/23), and Heltah Skeltah’s Sean Price (3/23). Another Tech N9ne affiliate, Yukmouth is dropping his second album since leaving Rap-A-Lot Records, Free At Last, a week prior. The month is capped off with the release of Drake’s highly anticipated debut Thank Me Later on March 30, which will face-off against T-Pain’s RevolveЯ and Trina’s Amazin’.
After postponing their eighth album due to Adam Yauch’s cancer diagnosis, the Beastie Boys will finally release Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1 on April 6. In anticipation of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s June 30 release of Uni5: The World’s Enemy, Bizzy Bone will release a Rock-themed solo album on April 20. The following week, former D-Block member J-Hood will unveil his debut album Sorry I Made You Wait, featuring guest appearances by OJ Da Juiceman, Lil Flip, and Chingy. Fans should also expect the 17-track sequel in Gucci Mane’s The State Vs. Radric Davis trilogy, The Appeal, to drop during the month, later followed by The Verdict in December.
In a recent HipHopDX exclusive, AZ announced that he is gearing up for a May/June release of Doe Or Die 2 with the hopeful assistance of Dr. Dre, Kanye West, and Nas (though none have confirmed). With details soon to follow, Evidence has announced the May 11 release of his highly anticipated sophomore album Cats & Dogs. Underground fans should also be sure to mark their calendars for both Finale’s follow-up album to Pipe Dream And A Promise on May 25 and Black Milk’s fourth album, Album Of The Year, which is slated for a summer release. After releasing five mixtapes and departing from Interscope Records during 2009, Lloyd Banks will finally drop his untitled third solo album in June.
On the horizon, Raekwon announced via Twitter that he is planning on following up Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...Pt. II with not one, but two albums in 2010. In addition, Capone-N-Noreaga is in the lab working on The War Report II, which is already co-signed by Raekwon and 9th Wonder. dead prez’s M-1 has also teamed up with Bay Area producer DJ Child to produce his upcoming studio album in its entirety. Fans should also be on the lookout for recently announced collaborative projects by DJ Quik and Suga Free, eMC, and Termanology and M.O.P.’s Lil Fame.
