Ke$ha Sets Female Download Record, Unpaid By Flo Rida
01.04.10 | by Andres Tardio
Recently, Ke$ha set the female download record by moving 610,000 digital units of her single "Tik Tok." This is the highest weekly sales total by a woman since tracking started, back in 2003. In an ironic twist, it is the second highest weekly sum since Flo Rida's "Right Round," which sold more than 630,000 units early last year.
The irony comes because Ke$ha is actually featured on "Right Round" as the female vocalist but she isn't given any credit. Nacl in November of '09, she told Billboard that she had gotten a dollar sign tattoo because of "Right Round."
"I got it because I was being ironic," she said. "I didn't make any money off the Flo Rida song -- no one knew it was me. Whatever. I'm money -- I don't need money."
"Tik Tok" is the first single off of her debut album Animal, which will be released tomorrow, January 5, 2009.
