CBS Explains Censoring of "Forever"/"Drop the World" Grammy Performance

This past Sunday's airing of the Grammy Awards show featured some of music biggest acts including Mary J. Blige, Maxwell, and Beyonce. Lil Wayne, Drake, and Eminem also made appearances, performing both "Forever," and "Drop the World" during the latter half of the telecast. However, for those who caught the show live, lyrics during the performance were consistently censored out, causing somewhat of a distraction for viewers.

CBS, which aired the awards show, explained why it censored so much of the only Hip Hop performance that night. "It was a rousing musical performance," CBS told the Associated Press, "but words were edited from the live telecast that didn't meet our broadcast standards. We have great respect for artists' creative freedom, but there are certain things you can't say, or sing on television."
