Lil' Kim & DMX Perform Together On Stage In Arizona

Lil' Kim & DMX Perform Together On Stage In Arizona

July 19, 2010 08:48:00 AM CDT

by Allen Jacobs

Two superstars of the 1990s, Lil' Kim and DMX, made a rare performance together this past weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona. Kim is presently touring, while X, who now lives in Arizona, appeared to do "Money, Power, Respect." The two worked together in one of the hits from the 1998 platinum album from The L.O.X. of the same name.

Both artists are presently plotting a comeback, as DMX is reportedly recording, and rumors have circulated that Kim may end up on Jay-Z's Roc Nation imprint. The former Junior M.A.F.I.A. emcee and model has yet to confirm that signing, though she's addressed that rumor. "There are a lot of offers on the table right now. It's not a done deal," she told The Chicago Tribune last month.

Fans can watch fan-submitted concert footage from the event at Rap-Up.com.

DMX Freed From Arizona Jail, Rep Confirms

Troubled rapper Earl "DMX" Simmons' early release from an Arizona jail today has been confirmed by his criminal defense attorney.

The rapper was freed from behind bars after serving three quarters of a six-month sentence.

DMX is finally out of the dog house. XXLMag.com has learned that the troubled rapper, born Earl Simmons, was freed from an Arizona jail today (July 6). X's criminal defense attorney, Glenn Allen, confirmed with XXL that the Yonkers-bred MC was released after serving four months of a six-month sentence. As previously reported, the Yonkers MC was locked up on March 9 for for five counts of violating his probation, all of which were related to cocaine abuse. The Ruff Ryder was on probation for throwing a food tray at an officer while locked up on drug, theft and animal abuse charges last year. (XXL Mag)

Yesterday, X's producer Dame Grease said he would be a free man today.

Guess who's coming home? According to producer Dame Grease,DMX will be released from jail tomorrow after violating his probation back in March. Let's hope that Dark Man X can get his life together, and drop something decent for his loyal fans. First off, he's got to kick that habit of his. (Y2K Daily)

Writing via Twitter last March, rapper Game said his LAX collaborator still had his support.

"This my only tweet for 2day" Game wrote Tuesday (March 23) afternoon. "DMX is MY N!GGA & nobody or NO MEDIA or NO N!GGA nor B!TCH can ever change that !!! GO listen to "Slippin" !!!" (Game's Twitter)

The rapper was sentenced to six months behind bars after violating the terms of his probation in March.

DMX was just sentenced to six months in jail for violating his probation -- but rehab could save him from doing hard time. DMX admitted to five separate probation violations -- the result of using illegal drugs. During the hearing, a rep from the Pasadena Recovery Center gave the judge a letter from Dr. Drew Pinsky, asking permission to treat X at his facility ... in lieu of jail. The judge seemed open to sending X to the PRC. (TMZ)

Plea Agreement Reached In Lil Wayne's Arizona Case

Plea Agreement Reached In Lil Wayne's Arizona Case

June 21, 2010 11:45:00 AM CDT | by Danielle Harling

A plea hearing held last week has proved to be a success for rapper Lil Wayne. The YumaSun.com reports that the incarcerated rapper will likely not receive jail time for drug and weapons charges he received two years ago in Arizona.

The plea hearing took place via video feed with Lil Wayne broadcasted from his jail cell.

The rapper pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a dangerous drug and will likely be given several years probation instead of added jail time.

Because of Lil Wayne’s guilty plea the other, more serious charges including possession of a narcotic drug for sale, misconduct involving weapons, and possession of drug paraphernalia were all dropped.

Lil Wayne received the drug and weapons charges back in 2008 when his tour bus was searched by agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration. A .40-caliber pistol, almost four ounces of marijuana, an ounce of cocaine, 41 grams of Ecstasy, and other drug paraphernalia were found on the bus.

Lil Wayne is currently serving time at New York’s Riker’s Island.

Pitbull Cancels Shows Due to Immigration Law
May 14, 2010 11:05:00 AM CDT | by Andres Tardio

Miami's Pitbull is heading out on his "Mr. Worldwide's Carnaval" tour but he will not make any stops in Phoenix. The artist known as Mr. 305 will do this protest Arizona's new, controversial immigration law.

“I am canceling my concert in Phoenix on May 31... How is the country we enjoy and love bcuz of its human rights, freedom, opportunity and that has been built by immigrants, now start 2 deny them??.. It is contradicting 2 everything the USA stands 4,” he announced on his Twitter page.

He will begin this "Worldwide" tour on May 25 and it will go through the end of June.

He isn't alone in doing this. Cypress Hill and others have also canceled shows due to this law. Pitbull is prepping the release of his first Spanish-only album, Armando, a tip of the hat to his real name Armando Perez. Fans can expect that album in the summer and another album, PlanetPit, in the Fall.

Ras Kass, Chuck D Speak Out Against Arizona Immigration Law

Ras Kass, Chuck D Speak Out Against Arizona Immigration Law
April 28, 2010 08:04:00 PM CDT | by Salima Koroma

This week's passing of the Arizona immigration law has caused wide controversy and heated debate across the country. The bill was signed into Arizona law by Governor Jan Brewed on Monday, and permits police to use their own judgement in questioning anyone about their immigration status. Those who do not have their papers will face state punishment and police officers who do not inquire into the immigration status of "suspicious persons" may also face a state crime.

The law is being likened to Jim Crow laws, which, until the mid 1960s, were used to legally discriminate against blacks. Rapper Ras Kass is one figure who has spoken out against the new Arizona law, also comparing it to Jim Crow. "I'm just speaking up, saying how racist it is," he said in a YouTube video. "That shit is like the Jim Crow laws. Honestly, in my opinion, the world has evolved. America has evolved. There's good people everywhere but in general, it's the old, rich motherfuckers that had it, they want the good old days. They still want everybody in their place like it's the 50s or something…And it ain't the young people, but it's just the old, mad-ass, rich, white men with some bullshit. I don't know what the fuck they think. Like when God made earth [they just think] white niggas was here in America. You're mad at immigrants but [you're] an immigrant too!"

Rapper and activist Chuck D (with writer Theresa Johnson) wrote via the Huffington Post, "In 1991, Public Enemy wrote a song criticizing Arizona officials (including John McCain and Fife Symington) for rejecting the federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The same politics written about in 'By the Time I Get to Arizona' are alive and well in Arizona today, but this time the target is Brown people."

Kass explained that such laws encourage blatant racial profiling, and that blacks and Latinos failed to speak up when Middle Easterners were targeted after 9/11. "Really, we need to show some solidarity," he said. "No disrespect, but fuck Arizona. Us as black people, us as brown people, us as yellow people and us as white people, its a human thing; but when one motherfucker gets picked on for one thing, we gotta stand together. You either do it politically, and if you can't fix it politically, because they just passed [the bill], then do it financially. Don't support that shit. Move out that motherfucker. Let the whole state, let the rich white niggas sell [to themselves]."

Chuck D expressed the same kinds of sentiments, calling for a boycott of Arizona, and admonishing figures who have been silent on the issue. "The people of Arizona who voted for this bill, as well as those who crafted it, demonstrate no regard for the humanity or contributions of Latino people. And for all of those who have chosen not to speak up, shame on you for silently endorsing this legislated hate.

"These actions must stop," he continued. "We are issuing a call to action, urging fellow musicians, artists, athletes, performers, academics and production companies to refuse to work in Arizona until officials not only overturn this bill, but recognize the human rights of immigrants…What they're doing to immigrants is appalling, but it will be even more damning if we remain silent."
