KRS-One & DJ Premier To Release "Return Of The Boom Bip" Album
February 22, 2010 10:02:00 AM CST | by Jake Paine

In 1993, after five studio albums under the name of Boogie Down Productions, KRS-One released the first album under his solo name, Return of the Boom Bap. Released on Jive Records, the album debuted at #37 on the charts, and prompted hits like the Showbiz-produced "Sound Of Da Police" and the DJ Premier-produced "Outta Here." The Gang Starr beat-king produced seven of the album's 14 tracks, as its remembered as one of The Teacha's finest solo offerings.

Over 16 years later, DJ Premier and KRS-One are said to be at work at Return of the Boom Bip. The album, reportedly coming on Premier's Year Round Records, may serve as a sequel. During NBA All-Star Weekend, Premier spoke to 944 Magazine about the underway recordings.

"It's going to be one of the illest albums of 2010," said the legendary producer. Q-Tip, Grand Puba and Ice-T are already confirmed guests on the album. HipHopDX will keep you updated of more as it happens. The two last worked together on "Classic" with Kanye West, Rakim and Nas for a Nike campaign, and an update of "Criminal Minded" for a similar beverage caompaign.

In related news, DJ Premier is presently working on albums with MC Eiht, NYGz, Big Shug and Nick Javas. Last year, KRS-One did a collaboration album with Black Moon's Buckshot called Survival Skills.

Lil Wayne Gets Eight Root Canals
February 22, 2010 09:02:00 AM CST | by Slava Kuperstein

Those considering purchasing a grill beware - Lil Wayne reportedly underwent major dental work that included eight root canals in one sitting.

According to TMZ.com, Wayne took part in an eight-hour procedure that included work on his grill, numerous tooth implants redone (and some implants added), "and had the few real teeth he had left repaired."

In light of the dental surgery, Wayne's prison sentence for criminal weapons possession was postponed from February 25 to March 2.

In 2008, Wayne missed a court date due similar dental issues.

Drake On Kanye West's "Good A** Job" LP

News: Drake On Kanye West's "Good A** Job" LP, "It's Going To Be One Of The Best Hip-Hop Albums In The Past 10 Years"

Written by Rosario Harper

Young Money's Drake has vouched for Kanye West's upcoming Good A** Job album and said it would be the decade's top hip-hop release.

According to Drake, Ye is also working on debut album, Thank Me Later.

The Canadian rapper-singer revealed to GQ magazine that he has been in Hawaii laying down tracks for both his and Mr. West's albums. When asked how they divide time between the two projects, Drake joked, "More like we work on his album until he gets tired." Little is known about West's fifth studio effort, but the Young Money star offered his inside take. "His album is going to be one of the best hip-hop albums in the last 10 years," he declared. (Rap-Up)
Writing through his popular Twitter page, G.O.O.D. Music's Big Sean publicly announced Ye's next LP title.

"Up n at em!!! Time to go to Hawaii! To work on the best 2 albums of all time. Mne "Finally Famous" n Kanye's graduation!," Sean wrote mistakingly Sunday (February 14) morning. "I mean "Good ass Job" not Graduation. I was sleepy as h*ll when tweeted that sh*t! Happy Valentines Day! Everybody be safe... N Don't break my aching heart! Show me love back! I'm off to Hawaii... Luv y'all!" (Big Sean's Twitter)
Last month, Ye wrote in his popular daily blog about returning to the studio.

"FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY FOR THEIR CONSTANT LOVE AND SUPPORT OVER THESE PAST 6 YEARS!," he wrote Saturday (January 2). "I'M SO HAPPY TO BE BACK IN THE STUDIO MAKING NEW MUSIC. I WILL BRING YOU THE BEST I HAVE TO OFFER WITH THE SAME DEDICATION THAT KOBE HAS ON THE COURT. IT'S FUNNY HOW SO MANY RAPPERS GET WORSE AS THEIR CAREERS STRETCH OUT BUT TRUE POETS GET BETTER." (Kanye West's Blog)
He was also vocal in discussing his absence from hip-hop during a Kid Cudi concert last month.

"I had to get up out this motherf*cker for a second," Ye told the crowd. "I love the game so much and I'm so passionate about it that I just can't take this sh*t sometimes. And if they take everything away from me it wouldn't f*cking matter. Artists be too concerned about their well-being sometimes. Artists be too scared to stand up for something. They scared to lose they f*cking house or they scared to lose their record deal. I sold my soul to the devil, I know it's a crappy deal/At least it came with a few toys like a Happy Meal." Raekwon Awaits New Wu-Tang Clan Album, "We Have To Do It, It's A Job"

News: Raekwon Awaits New Wu-Tang Clan Album, "We Have To Do It, It's A Job"
Saturday, Feb 20, 2010 11:12AM

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Rap veteran Raekwon recently opened up about his thoughts of a new Wu-Tang Clan album and why despite his own projects coming out, the crew will drop a full-length disc in the future.

Although he can not predict when a new Wu album will drop, the "Chef" said fans should rest assured it is coming.

"I mean, in my eyes there's always going to be another Wu album," he said in an interview. "Whether you hear me come out with another album or whether you hear any one of the Clan members, we're always going to involve everybody. When I look at Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Part II, I look at that as a Wu album. You feel me? Even though it was my brand and my thing that I done, I had my dudes on it. The first one was like that too, a Wu album. As far as doing another [full Wu-Tang album], we don't know when it's going to come yet. But it'll come. We have to do it. It's a job. I can't call exactly when. But you got this Wu Massacre about to come. You got the Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang, which is my next album that's coming. These are all avenues to incorporate the W at a high level right now." (Entertainment Weekly)
A new Wu project would mark the crew's latest effort since 2007's 8 Diagrams.

In early 2007, in anticipation for the Clan's upcoming album, 8 Diagrams, Nature Sounds issued the Mathematics-compiled Unreleased, a collection of new remixes and hard to find, previously unreleased songs from the group and some of its friends. It wasn't until the end of the year, however -- after a couple of delays and some criticism from Raekwon and Ghostface directed at RZA regarding the overall sound of the record -- that 8 Diagrams. (All Music)
Last month, the rapper broke his silence on a big announcement he had in store for 2010.

"O I forgot my announcement on jan 1st to give yall so ima tell ya now! "I WILL BE DROPPIN 2 ALBUMS THIS YEAR!" Rt this crack....," he wrote over the weekend. "@ghanie nah solo records@agthekid ill deliver trust me!" (Raekwon's Twitter)
Outside of retail releases, Rae is scheduled to perform at this spring's Paid Dues festival in California.

Paid Dues 2010: Ice Cube, Murs & 9th Wonder, Tech N9ne & Raekwon, Tha Dogg Pound, Jay Electronica, Dilated Peoples, Psycho Realm & Necro, People Under The Stairs, Freeway & Jake One, Random Axe, R.A. The Rugged Man, Strong Arm Steady and more. Hosted by radio personality Angela Yee, DJ Wonder, and others, the Paid Dues Independent Hip Hop Festival will take place in San Bernadino, California on April 3, 2010. (Guerilla Union)

Jay-Z Talks New Videos And Possibility Of A New Album

Jay-Z Talks New Videos And Possibility Of A New Album
February 20, 2010 12:02:00 PM CST | by Krysten Hughes

While at the NBA All-Star Game in Dallas, rapper Jay-Z talked to MTV about his upcoming plans to shoot more music videos for Blueprint 3 and the possibility of a new album.

"I wanna shoot 'Venus vs. Mars'. I may shoot two. I shot 'Run This Town' [and 'D.O.A. (Death of Auto Tune)']. I been shooting two at the same time. I'll probably shoot 'Venus' and maybe 'A Star Is Born.' But I definitely wanna shoot 'Venus'. I got an amazing concept in my mind."

Jay also talked about "Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)" with Rihanna and members of U2 performed for the "Hope For Haiti Now" telethon. "The number is ridiculous as far as the [money generated by the Hope For Haiti Now] album. I'm excited about the whole effort we put into the telethon. It's helping real people through a real tough time, and we'll just move on from there."

Blueprint 3 will not be his last album. Jay is already talking about ideas and tracks for a new album. "I didn't really start yet. I got a couple of scraps and I got a couple of ideas. I didn't really go into the studio yet. I've been toying with ideas and direction and things like that", he added, "I got one crazy record. To be honest with you, it's crazy. I got one and we'll build from there. Whether it comes out this year or next year, it depends on the music and how it's coming out. I don't really have any dates."
