Paul Wall Says Mike Jones Burned Bridges Between Artists

Paul Wall tells Ozone Magazine that his "Still Tippin'" partner Mike Jones burned bridges with many of his Swishahouse labelmates.



In a recent interview with Ozone Magazine, the Peoples' Champ Paul Wall discussed the M.I.A. status of Mike Jones. According to Wall, he hasn't kept up with Jones, saying that Jones burned bridges with his Swishahouse brethren after he parted ways with the label. Wall even went as far to say that the knockout punch delivered to Jones by fellow Houston rapper Trae was much to be expected.



"Ever since he left Swishahouse I haven't really kept track of him," he said. "I really didn't know him too well before he came to Swishahouse. I'd say he dug his own grave. He lied to a lot of people, he turned his back on a lot of people, and he burned a lot of bridges. I don't want to kick a dog while he's down and I don't wanna just talk shit about him, but I think a lot of people were happy when [Trae] punched him and knocked him out...like I said, Mike Jones burned his bridge with a lot of people, so he probably had a knock out coming from somewhere at some time anyway. The Houston rapper, who recently released his latest album Heart of a Champion, said that the notion that he and Jones were partners in rap is a misconception, saying that Mike Jones was more concerned with his own success. Although he wishes no ill on Jones, Wall says that he has "washed [his] hands of him."



"I would've liked it to be like that [we were a unit], but Mike Jones didn't want that," he explained He kinda wanted it to all be about him. If that's how you want it, I'm not gonna be the one to beg you to stay around, especially since all my major success came not too long after the break up with me and Chamillionaire. I was in a mindframe where it was like, 'If you don't want to be here, I'm not gonna force you'...I kinda washed my hands of him. I'm not worried about Mike Jones. I don't wish no bad on him and I don't hate him, but I've got to move in my own direction. There's no sense in arguing with him. Eminem's Recovery will not budge from #1. While Drake's Thank Me Later bumped one spot to #3, Em fell just short of 1.5 million units cleared. Drake's So Far Gone finally crossed the 500,000 mark, giving the Rap sensation a gold plaque on both of his retail releases - and another from his role on We Are Young Money.







M.I.A. snagged a Top 10 debut with her latest, /\/\/\Y/\. Albeit titled poorly for Internet search engines, the Rap-friendly Electro-Pop princess went even more political with her latest Interscope release.



Outkast's Big Boi fell 11 spots to #14. The Atlanta Hip Hop pioneer is 10,000+ units shy of the six-figure mark with his critically-acclaimed Def Jam debut, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. The release features artists such as T.I., Gucci Mane and Too Short, with production from Organized Noize, Scott Storch and Lil Jon. Big Boi's new label-mate, The-Dream, fell eight units to #12 with Love-King.



Usher's Raymond v. Raymond maintained Top 20. The veteran Pop entertainer's "divorce album" is marching its way to a platinum plaque for Mr. Raymond and his longtime backer, LaFace Records.

Former Young Money and No Limit Records artist Curren$y found a Top 40 debut with his Def Jam-distributed Pilot Talk. Produced by Reasonable Doubt architect Ski Beatz, and featuring Mos Def and Jay Electronica, the New Orleans emcee cleared over 10,000 first week units.







Two new chart appearances came courtesy of Paul Wall's latest, Heart of A Champion. The Swishahouse/Warner Brothers/Asylum release featured surprise collaborations courtesy of Jay Electronica, Raekwon and Kid Sister. The release fell just shy of a Top 50 debut. Meanwhile, despite critical acclaim, Capone-N-Noreaga's War Report 2 fought to stay in the Top 100. Executive produced by Raekwon, the EMI-distributed project features Nas, Busta Rhymes and several personnel carry-overs from CNN's acclaimed 1997 first War Report.



Florida rapper Plies found the 100,000 mark with his Atlantic Records' Goon Affiliated album. This is the fourth album from Plies to cross that benchmark.

Southern rapper Paul Wall recently opened up about avoiding comparisons to fellow white rappers like Eminem and Vanilla Ice and said his upbringing played a large role.

Paul feels his Texas roots helped him avoid being stereotyped as just another "white rapper."

"Everybody raised me to believe I was a kid and an individual. So me being White or any other characteristic didn't define who I was," he explained in an interview. "So I didn't carry myself as a White person. I am who I am. I also think I'm wise enough to know you can't compare me to Eminem due to his success and style. Also my sound was different. Coming from Texas there's a large Mexican and Jamaican population so it's multiracial. So my fan base is extremely multiracial so that has something to do with it, too." (XXL Mag)
Last year, Eminem talked about being blindly compared to then-newcomer Asher Roth.

"Asher Roth, I haven't had a chance to, like, really get into everything, like, really get into what he's about, because I've only heard a couple songs," Em said in the May 2009 issue of XXL Magazine. "There was talk about people saying he sounded like me, and he was doing this and that and, you know, trying to take what I do and do it. You know, sh*t like that. I've heard things. But the stuff that I've heard from him honestly, which certainly isn't enough for me to make my own opinion and say, 'Yeah, he does sound like me' or 'No, he doesn't.' But the couple of songs I've head, I don't really think he does. You know what I mean? He's doing his own thing. I can respect it, too, because at the end of the day, I think he's dope." In the past, rap mogul Jay-Z has talked about moving away from the standard "black music" stereotype in hip-hop.

"On the show as well were Third Eye Blind and Kelly Clarkson," Jay explained talking about a 2009 Arizona concert. "I thought that to be the oddest pairing ever but, soon realized, it's what I've always professed. There is no such thing as black music or white music only good or bad music. It's stupid cool to like things that are not like you, and that goes for outside of music. If you're an African American you can have a Jewish friend...I think concerts like this should happen more often...I'm putting that into the universe..next up Taylor Swift and Uncle Murda!!" Paul Wall is currently preparing the release of his new album, Heart of a Champion.

Fresh off a month-long tour with former partner-in-rhyme, Chamillionaire, Houston rapper, Paul Wall, is all set to drop his 4th major label album, Heart of a Champion, on June 29th through Swisha House/Asylum Records. Almost half of the tracks featured on the album are produced by long-time friend and Expensive Taste band-mate, Travis Barker. Chamillionaire and Paul Wall have had a tumultuous relationship, one that has been filled with ups and downs over the years. After becoming rhyming partners, they were a staple in the independent album circuit, releasing such underground classics as Get Ya Mind Correct.

By 2005, the major label-backed emcees went their seperate ways find gold and platinum success on their own. After some amicability and spot date performances in the last two years, the two announced that they are bringing their reunion to a nationwide stage.

The news comes as a confirmation from Cham himself via Twitter.

"It's official @chamillionaire & @paulwallbaby are going on tour together. ITS GOIN ALL THE WAY DOWN."

Not stopping with that, he also calls other emcees to unite.

"Don't stop with me and Paul goin on tour. I think every1 that reps Texas should work together to make these industry nut riders sick."

Cham also released Major Pain today, kicking off a new mixtape series. He also confirmed that he has signed the first 1,000 copies.

"Just finished signing the first 1,000 MAJOR PAIN cds. Me and my bright ideas."

Paul Wall and Chamillionaire are headlining acts in this year's South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, the third week of March.
