Tracklisting Revealed For Ice Cube's "I Am The West"

West coast veterans WC and Jayo Felony will appear on the 16-song LP, as well as promising hopeful Young Maylay.



Due on September 28, Ice Cube's I Am The West will be the ninth studio solo album from the N.W.A. lyricist. Released on Cube's own Lench Mob Recordings imprint, the controversially titled album is believed to contain 16 tracks, with appearances from longtime collaborator WC, and San Diego, California's Jayo Felony. Additionally, Young Maylay will appear, who's previously worked with Blaq Poet, MC Eiht and DJ Premier.



I Am The West is said to assert Cube and his peers' place in west coast history, which has been commonly forgotten by artists and media frequently using the term "new west." The album features a song, "No Country For Old Men," sharing its name with an editorial written on HipHopDX about Cube's self-affirmation. The album is the rapper-turned-actor's first since 2008's Raw Footage.

Renowned producer Dr. Dre has reportedly passed on an opportunity to work with Former N.W.A partner Ice Cube for the rapper's upcoming I Am The West album.



Writing via his blog, Cube informed fans that his former N.W.A. member would no longer be featured on the project.



"I'm almost done with my record, I AM THE WEST. I've been mixing songs and dealing with paperwork all week and I'm down to my last 4 songs to mix. It's bangin'. I think we'll end up wit about 15 songs when it's all said and done and I'm real happy wit it. As a matter of fact, I'm in the Lench Mob Studios writing this blog right now. I'm going to Philly in the morning to promote Lottery Ticket. I get a lot of love in Philly...Go Mike Vick! Many asked about Dr. Dre working on my album. Negative, Dre has been M.I.A. for a few months now. I asked Snoop has he heard from him and he said, no. I can't wait. I gotta turn my sh*t in by Aug. 20th to make street date...Sept 28th. I'll keep you posted if anythang new develops." (Ice Cube)

Despite not linking with Dre for his album, Cube recently said he would be featured on the producer's upcoming Detox project.



"Dre is a master. What's cool about working with Dre is he stays the same. Everyone else change and trip, but I remember working with Dre back when we just in the garage. Just the two of us. And he works the same way. Don't come up with an empty palette, bring a lot of ideas to the plate...He's making a great record. I'm on it. I'm proud to be, I can't wait to get back to L.A. to get back in the studio with him. I'm trying to get a few tracks for my record I Am The West that's coming out..." (All Hip Hop)

Recent reports showed that the follow-up to 2008's Raw Footage was previously delayed to September 24th.

He recently revealed the underlying themes behind featured songs "Man vs. Machine" and "Hood Robbin."



"['Man Vs. Machine'] is talking about our obsessions with machinery and how it's taking over," he said in an interview. "Automation is taking over human beings in all our relevancy in this world. Pretty soon, machines are gonna take over and that's just real...['Hood Robbin'] is talking about how big corporations is now stealing from the poor and giving to the rich. It's a whole thing about the things we're going up against with housing and medical insurance ... just everything people are going through. Real sh** that ain't got nothing to do with money, cars, [and] all the sh** most rappers talk about." (Baller Status)

West Coast rap veteran Ice Cube has announced plans to debut his new song, "Drink The Kool-Aid," on the Internet tomorrow.



Cube revealed that the project will be released on his IceCube.com website.



"It's official, 'Drink the Kool-Aid' will drop on Tuesday July 27th. You can get it right here on icecube.com or itunes. The ringtone will be availible everywhere. Our viral video will drop the following Tuesday August 3rd. I wish I could release a single in store for all my true CD fans, but nobody will stock a single nowadays. Sign of the times. Music is under attack. The video is raw, black and white shot by Dah-Dah. I promised you a song a month and here we go. The first one. Right now I'm in the studio mixing a song called "Soul On Ice" produced by the Bizness. Dope as the title. As the album gets closer I'll be blogging more and more for all my die-hards out there. Earlier this month, Cube confirmed reports of his album being pushed back to September.

According to Amazon.com, Ice Cube's first album in two years, I Am The West will no longer be a summer release. The N.W.A. alum's latest solo offering has appeared to have moved to September 24. The release is coming courtesy of Cube's own Lench Mob Records, also home to his Westside Connection partner, WC.



I Am The West, according to Cube, will contain production from Dr. Dre. The rapper said he had also sorted through tracks by fellow west coast veterans Sir Jinx, E-A-Ski and DJ Quik. A first single and video, "I Rep That West" released in March, featuring new Suave House artist Jigg. (June 24)



UPDATE: Last week, via his IceCube.com blog, Cube confirmed the delays that were reported June 24. "I've been working my ass off trying to get it done for you but I ran out of time. The music is right but the paperwork isn't and since I'm working with a few new producers the contracts are taking a little longer then usual, so I missed my turn-in date," wrote the Rap superstar. Cube also revealed that fans can expect a leaked song a month until release date.



He did not mention September as the new official date, though retailers have been told that.

Cash Money Records' Glasses Malone has addressed recent speculation of trying to spark an Ice Cube beef on Twitter today and said he has always paid homage to rap veterans.

From Malone's perspective, Cube has been going after him and West Coast rapper Jay Rock.

"What kills me is how some of the OGS talk sh*t in the press but when the see me face to face.. give me props and say they understand," he wrote. "It aint no beef!!! I see these n*ggas sometimes!! Its all love! yet they slander a n*gga to the blogs! Yet they hate to the DJS Of course they dont wanna see a n*gga like me get it!!! When is the last time they helped a n*gga get it!! Truth is I never asked for Ice Cube's help!!! Not one time!! I never dissed that N*gga either... Get Yo Facts St8!! I'mma REAL ONE ... I heard they said we aint paid dues!! Aint that a b*tch!! I gave up the trap for this sh*t! To have a bunch of n*ggas block me!! ... Ice Cube throws shots at me and Rock in a mag interview!! But I paid homage at the VIP when I met him!!! All these oG n*ggas i see um and pay my respects!!!! yet they get on some bullsh*t with a n*gga!!!! All you other n*ggas who use to push New West can suck OG d*ck all you want!! Last March, Glasses said he did not have any problems with Ice Cube.

"I've always stated that I've never had personal problems with Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. Snoop Dogg is one of my favorite rappers and Ice Cube influenced my style. You can hear Ice Cube in my style. I don't think it was ever an issue of me not liking or disrespecting them but I am a competitive dude and I come up under their reign of competitive nature. The veterans are very competitive with each other. Naturally I come in to this business as a competitor, especially if that artist is not responsible for my career. I want to be as dope as Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube, damn it. I didn't get in to this business to be below anybody. That competitive nature on the microphone tends to make me an outcast." (All Hip Hop)
Jay Rock also explained taking the defensive approach when reading recent "New West" comments made by Cube.

"I felt without him saying who he was talking about, that was a slap in the face of all the rappers in L.A. that's been grindin' hard and it confused a lot of fans because they don't know who he talking about and what's going on behind the scenes," he explained in an interview. "Let me clear this up for all the IceCube d*ck riders who feelings got hurt... I'm really a Cube fan and I know he paved the way for n*ggas like me. In my comments I never dissed him. I'm not looking for no attention in that way. I'm on the cover of XXL right now and I've been in every other magazine out. I've had videos on BET and MTV so attention is not what I'm looking for from this. To be real, it's the same thing he was on when he was coming up. Sh*t, the name of his group was 'N*ggas With Attitude.' They spoke up on whatever they was feeling. So why is it so wrong when I say something?" (XXL Mag)
Cube, writing via a blog entry, called out the emergence of certain new West Coast emcees earlier this year.

"What's up with these local MC's in L.A. who keep disrespecting me? They're just mad cause I don't f*ck with they wack-a**," he wrote. "They ain't on my level, why should I waste my time. I don't even remember ever meeting these clowns or even being in the same room with any of 'em. They can't make a name for themselves so they need help from the O/G's. I refuse the throw'em a life line. F*ck'em. It ain't my job to make nobody famous. And for the record, I ain't scared of no n*gga. Especially, no rappers....seriously people." (Ice Cube's Blog)

Actor/Rapper Ice Cube recently talked about the status of his Friday movie franchise and the possibility of a sequel.

Cube said he would only consider rolling the cameras once again if his original co-star Chris Tucker would be involved.

"I want to. But I don't want to do it without Chris Tucker," he revealed in an interview. "That's what people want. I really want to give people what they want, especially doing it for a fourth time. We can't just go through a movie without giving the people exactly what they want. I've been trying to convince Chris to do it. Just say 'yeah,' it's alright...I see Smokey working at a rehab center. [laughs] Craig and Day-Day are probably selling weed by now, get busted, have to go rehab with Smokey, try to convince Smokey to smoke a joint. [laughs] That'd be pretty cool." (Inside Movies)
Since the original came out in 1995, Friday has spawned multiple sequels.

The film has spawned two sequels, Next Friday and Friday After Next. The sequels were successful at the box office but a failure with critics. Another sequel, tentatively titled Last Friday, was rumored to be in the works in 2007. The film was to star all of the original cast from the previous Friday films. However, no news on production was ever confirmed. An animated television series based on the film was premiered on MTV2, on Sunday, June 24, 2007. (Wikipedia)
Cube will be starring in a new police film later this year.

Ice Cube has joined Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster to star in Oren Moverman's police drama "Rampart," centered on the scandal at the LAPD's division in the 1990s. Project reunites Harrelson and Foster with Moverman, who directed them in "The Messenger," his helming debut. "Rampart," based on James Ellroy's screenplay, has been developed at Light stream Pictures and set up with "The Messenger" producer Lawrence Inglee and Clark Peterson ("Monster"). (Variety)
He will also release his I Am The West solo album later this year.

"I AM THE WEST...is the name of my new record. After completing about 65% of my music, this is the perfect title. This sh*t is cocky, no apologies, West Coast gangsta sh*t. I can't help it. That's what I do. June seems too tight for a release, but July is very doable. We'll see how things go. Now that I have my title, I can work on the concept of my photoshoot and artwork.
